Alghero, June 6, 2014. Jari-Matti Latvala and Miikka Antila on Volkwagen Polo R WRC are leading Rally Italia Sardegna, sixth round of World Rally Championship underway on the gravel roads of Sardinia. Finnish crew took the lead on Special Stage 5 when Belgian Thierry Neuville (Hyundai i20 WRC) who had been leading since SS2, lost nearly twenty minutes for a suspension issue during the stage. With 22.4 seconds from Latvala, second is his teammate Sebastien Ogier. French world champion is recovering in the standings after he had the difficult work to start before his rivals in the special stages held in the morning.

Temporary third position for Norwegian Mads Otsberg on Citroen DS3 WRC, who has found a very good race pace. Fourth is Andreas Mikkelsen on the third Volkswagen Polo R WRC, who, at the end of first leg, lost his podium position on the penultimate stage of the day. Robert Kubica is in fifth position on Ford Fiesta RS WRC. Polish driver made a daring comeback from 12th.
The first two WRC2 drivers are in ninth and tenth positions: Saudi Yazeed Al Rajhi, who took WRC2 lead on final stage of the day, and Nasser Al-Attyah from Quatar, who is competing in the event together with his Italian co-driver Giovanni Bernacchini. Both drivers are behind the wheel of Ford Fiesta RRC. Kruuda retired during the SS9 while he was WRC2 leader on Peugeot 208 T16 R5.

The race was a great show and gave the fans a lot of thrilling moment and surprises. Mikko Hirvonen was forced to retire when his Ford Fiesta caught fire in the road section between SS3 and SS4. On SS5 Juho Hanninen rolled his Hyundai while Kris Meeke had to stop his Citroen DS3 after battery alarm switched on.

The fight for the win is largely open in Rally Italia Sardegna when there still are two legs to go. Second leg is to be held on Saturday, June 7, with four special stages: two loops on the 19.27 kilometres "Monte Olia" and the very long 59.13 kilometres "Monte Lerno". For the public it will be possible to live the service park very closely at 6:30, 13:34 and 21:10 hrs on the Alghero's seafront.
