OGIER FIGHTS BACK AND IS NEW RALLY ITALIA SARDEGNA LEADER
Alghero, June 7, 2014. Show and surprises go on at Rally Italia Sardegna, sixth round of the World Rally Championship underway on the gravel roads of Sardinia. After Hirvonen and Latvala, who led at the end of previous days, World Champion Sebastien Ogier on Volkswagen Polo R WRC fought back and took the lead during last Special Stage of Saturday, the 60 kilometres SS13 "Monte Lerno", when the Frenchman attacked and his teammate Jari Matti Latvala had to change a wheel. Finnish driver had led since SS5 but finished the day in third. Ready to move in second place overall Norwegian Mads Otsberg, whose Citroen DS3 WRC earned a position. Norwegian Andreas Mikkelsen kept his previous 4th position on Volkswagen Polo R WRC. English Elfyn Evans is fifth on Ford Fiesta RS WRC. He earned a place on Robert Kubica. The Polish, also on a Fiesta, ripped the front right wheel from his car on SS12 and was forced to retire. Looking at the WRC 2 battle, here also the rally has a new leader: Italian Lorenzo Bertelli, who lost so much time yesterday, and his co-driver Mitya Dotta on Ford Fiesta RRC took the lead after Al Rajhi and Al Attyah retirements on the very long and tough Monte Lerno stage.

Tomorrow, Sunday, June 8, Rally Italia Sardegna will live its final day with four special stages in the morning: "Cala Flumini", "Castelsardo", "Tergu-Osimo" and "Cala Flumini" again, which will be the Power Stage of the rally. Podium Ceremonial at 13:45 in Alghero's seafront.
