Alghero (Italy), June 8, 2014. Being ninth overall in Italia Rally Sardegna, Italian Lorenzo Bertelli won WRC 2 category on Ford Fiesta RRC together with co-driver Mitia Dotta. Thanks to this result, Bertelli become the new leader in WRC 2 standings. The young Italian is the son of Miuccia Prada, founder of the world famous fashion label, and now he also is the first Italian driver to top such a world classification since years.

Bertelli commented: "We were dreaming quite a lot this weekend. I think in February or March I start to think about the first podium here or then later the first win here. It´s happened so I´m really happy. We pushed yesterday all the day because we knew we could have a good pace to catch the second place. Then we arrived at the end of the day with a chance and a gap and now we are here. I´m very happy but also because we won with a very good pace, not just for the problems of the other guys. It´s very strange the WRC 2 championship because you take six rallies and everybody takes different points from different races. You don´t know where one could go better and one not so it´s hard to make a real classification but for sure we are now in a good position. My confidence is not just happening for some reason, I know the reasons. This is the first rally where I have at least 40 per cent of pace notes. I know I am improving and the result comes because you work hard, not just because you go flat out. You have to work and I´m really happy about the result. For me it´s more than just the win, it´s something solid.

His co-driver Dotta said: "For sure I am very happy for this result. Okay we tried to do a good rally because we have a good pace notes, but we work on it a lot. It´s a really good thing to do this result. It was very, very hot and it was difficult, especially in the Monte Lerno stage".

Bertelli's career started in 2010 and he debuted in the WRC in Spain the following season. Bertelli mounted a full PWRC campaign in 2012, taking fifth in Spain and Argentina as he finished 10th, using both a Mitsubishi Lancer and a Subaru Impreza. Bertelli tackled WRC 2 last year, starting in an Impreza and partnered by Lorenzo Granai. He switched mid-season to a Ford Fiesta and new co-driver Mitia Dotta helped Bertelli to a best result of third in Sardinia. He ended the season 21st in the standings. And now he is topping the championship!
